Camel Racing
If you are visiting Ras Al Khaimah between the months of October and March, you have got to sample the camel racing. The tracks range from three to eight kilometres, and the races are rather different to what us Europeans are used to. The 'jockeys', for instance, are children aged between five and eight, who are Velcro-strapped onto the back of the camels. The audience does not remain in the stands, but get in their jeeps and follow the race on the outside track.
RAK Half Marathon
Why not help those who need it most whilst breaking into a sweat around the 21.0975km course? More than 500,000 people run in marathon races every year and raise millions of dollars for good causes.

Awafi Festival
This annual spring event is held from January 11th – February 2nd. Culture and heritage are the most important aspects of the festival. Each year the event attracts more and more visitors from all over the region. The festival venue features a Heritage Village comprising of 35 pavilions that provide various folkloric associations with the chance to present their talents. There are handicrafts and art displays.
Plus, there are children’s play areas, bull fighting, camel riding, football tournaments, horse racing, 4x4 dune climbing events, desert off road competitions and motor cycling shows. The Yola Traditional Dance Contest is inspired by the Bedouin lifestyle of yester year. Contestants fling a sword, a stick or a rifle in the air, catch it and in between dances. There are spacious areas which are specifically dedicated to family camping and a sea of tents occupies this area throughout the event.
The highlight of the event is the adrenaline pumping motor sports and motor races events. Contestants blazed around the venue, racing full throttle in the sand tracks. Thousands of people crowd the venue to witness thirty modified vehicles in two main categories one for eight cylinder vehicles and one for six cylinder vehicles, participate in the fiercely fought car racing competitions. There is also the high drama of the Dune climbing events. |
